Introduction in under 5 minutes

A quick introduction

There are a lot of blogs which have a long introduction. They go into a long description of covering the 5 W's and such. Well, this isn't going to be one of them. The goal is for you, the reader, spend LESS THAN 5 MINUTES reading this!

A few weeks ago, we had a conversation about our passion and enthusiasm for and about analytics. That conversation led to this blog. After some brainstorming, we came up with what our goal was: to share our enthusiasm and passion for analytics through learning, applying, and teaching.

Learning

Even though we have degrees and professional certifications in analytics, we are still students of analytics. As a field, analytics includes areas like statistics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. In a broader sense, analytics could include areas like ETL, data engineering, and data structures as well. This means there is a lot to learn!

We will review methods, papers, articles, books, and interview topic experts in our journey to learn all we can. Honestly, there isn't a topic area in analytics which will be off limits. If there are topics you think we should investigate, please let us know!

Applying

What good is learning if there is no application? Answer questions is the best way to apply what is learned. As such, we will showcase appropriate question development,  methodology, and research. Along these lines, pitfalls and traps we know and encounter will be highlighted and discussed. Tools such as R, Python, SQL, and Tableau will be employed to find solutions to questions.

In our journey to apply what we learn, it is our promise to make everything public facing. We want to share what we apply so you, the reader, can see what solutions we come up with. Additionally, if you have a better solution, please share it with us!

Teaching

The ultimate metric of showing you know something is by teaching it to someone else. A high level review of analytics is cool, but ultimately unsatisfactory. We want to go beyond "kicking the tires"  and actually to show what is going on "under the hood".  In fact, we may want to, if the opportunity arises, rebuild the engine and supercharge it!

Analytics is much more than code on a screen! Great teachers demystified analytics for us, and we want to demystify analytics for you! We will walk through the math, science, and logic of the field of analytics. We want you to learn and find the same joy in analytics we do.

Final Thoughts

Okay, that might have been more like 7 or 8 minutes, but we were close! Now, you know what this blog is all about! Without further adieu, let's get our analytics on!
