Formally, I'm a William. To my friends, and if you are reading this I consider you my friends, I'm Billy.
I grew up in West Jordan, UT. I attended Salt Lake Community College and the University of Utah for my associates, bachelors, and masters degree. My education was in mathematics and statistics, but I'm not a purist. I very much prefer the applied side of mathematics and statistics. This doesn't mean I don't have a great admiration for pure mathematics. I think proof and theorem formats are beautiful and exquisite. With that said, the applied sides of mathematics and statistics are just more fun.

I have primarily worked in healthcare for the majority of my career. I've worked in academic research, consulting, and been on the provider side. Currently, I work at an online market place - which I would consider the tech sector. So, why did I leave healthcare? Well, a great friend of mine found out I was open to new opportunities. Immediately, he asked me to send him my resume, and I left healthcare.
What keeps me in analytics, though? I love to learn and still consider myself a student. Analytics provides a pathway forward for me to continue to learn about the world we live in. Additionally, I love having fun! Mathematics and statistics provide an avenue of fun for me. Being able to think through a problem and code it out is incredibly exciting!
Outside of analytics, I'm an avid powerlifter. I compete in the World Association of Benchers and Dead Lifters. I'm also a big sports fan too. Baseball and hockey are my favorite sports to watch.
I am in the final year of the MST in data science at the University of Utah, while additionally completing a big data certificate through the U of U School of Computing.
In 2019 I worked as an intern for Intermountain Healthcare's enterprise data warehouse, a role that prepared me to partner with Intermountain's population health/ decision support team in 2020 for my master's project: building a predictive model to identify patients at higher-than-average risk for adverse health outcomes. In addition to healthcare analytics, I have a keen interest in business analytics, owing to my varied experiences working for several small local businesses in my early career and while earning my B.S. in mathematics.
As an entrepreneur, I operate a private math tutoring business, and can be found freelancing on saxophone for private events in and outside of Utah. I have always carried with me a need to fully analyze and understand the mechanisms of phenomena I encounter in life, whether in esoteric disciplines like pure mathematics and theoretical physics, or approachable subjects like music and fantasy football. What better time to be alive than the era of data?
